African Procurement Update: Pipeline Numbers and Market Trends
A regular look at the numbers behind the Tamboti Tenders database. As of this update, 754 tenders are active and enriched across Africa, giving a current picture of where public and donor-funded procurement activity is concentrated.
The headline numbers
- 754 active tenders currently open
- 301 closing within the next 7 days
- 88 new tenders added in the past 7 days
Sector breakdown
Supplies and goods remain the largest category at 178 open tenders, followed by construction and works at 106, IT and ICT at 91, and consultancy at 79. Energy, transport, and water and sanitation projects make up most of the remaining pipeline, each with dozens of active listings rather than hundreds.
Country breakdown
Zimbabwe leads with 403 open tenders, more than triple the next country. South Africa follows with 113, then Zambia with 54, Madagascar with 25, Mozambique with 14, Guinea-Bissau with 12, Tanzania with 11, and Nigeria with 10.
Reading the numbers correctly
These figures move constantly, and a snapshot like this one is accurate for the moment it was pulled rather than a fixed state of the market. The pattern worth watching is not any single week's total, but the ratio of new tenders to closing tenders, which is the clearest signal of whether the pipeline is expanding or simply turning over.
